Description

This seminar is designed to help students improve their basic mathematical skills. Students will use a scientific calculater to perform operations with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and real numbers; convert among fractions, decimals, and percentages; write and solve proportions for applied problems; find the perimeter and area of several geometric shapes, as well as, the volume and surface area of several geometric figures; solve linear equations in one variable; write and solve an equation in one variable for applied problems; solve a system of linear equations algebraically; write and solve a system of linear equations for applied problems; use the properties of exponents to simplify; convert decimal numbers to scientific notation and vice versa; and, multiply and divide numbers in scientific notation using the properties of exponents. Successfully completing this seminar prepares the student for upper-level math courses.
