Description

This course is a supervised work experience that provides students with exposure to coding practices in a hospital, physician's office, clinic or other healthcare setting with directed projects common to the typical coding tasks of a clinical coding specialist. Students are introduced to the health information process and coding procedures through observation, study and work. This experience will be hands on experience coding authentic patient records, whether through a field-based or virtual professional practice experience. Students must be available to complete a 60-hour internship during the semester to include actual coding time, recorded presentations and other resources made available to the student.
