Pediatrics on the Edge (HLT 787)

Term: 2014-2015 AY Continuing Ed Academic Year

Description

Care of pediatric patients in medical crisis is often an anxiety producing event for healthcare providers of all disciplines due to the high risk and low volume exposure. The Peds on the Edge course is designed to provide practical information focusing on assessment along with experiential learning breakout sessions to perform practices required to care for acutely ill kids. Skills instruction includes vascular access including intraosseous insertion, medication/fluid administration, airway and ventilation management, and rapid sequence intubation. Infant and school age patient high fidelity simulations are utilized to apply covered instruction, allow for skills performance, and teamwork. Each scenario is followed by a high-quality in-depth debriefing. The course is led by LifeFlight of Maine providers, who have in depth experience in caring for acutely ill and injured pediatric patients and doffer a simplified approach to increase confidence of participants when called into action.
