Description

Introduces the principles, functions and standards of the health information managment profession. Course content includes the body of knowledge, competencies, legal and ethical principles that constitute the core of the health information management profession's contribution to the healthcare industry. The course focuses on the role and responsibilities of the HIM professional. Students will learn about legal and ethical issues, HIPAA privacy standards, clinical classifications and vocabularies, and healthcare delivery systems, as well as garner an understanding of reimbursement methodologies.
